2008 - 2009 University College Probation/Disqualification Policies
Probation
Students not meeting the standards of normal progress will be placed on academic probation. Students on academic probation are subject to such restrictions with respect to courses and extracurricular activities as may be imposed by the academic dean of the college in which the student is enrolled. Students are removed from probation upon earning the minimum cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 2.000 that is required by the University.
University College (A9) probationary students are expected to be active participants in academic assistance to prevent their disqualification. They will be given a maximum of two semesters after the initial probation semester to attain good academic standing—minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.
1. Students with a B deficit of 6 or fewer are expected to attain good standing in one semester.
2. Students with a B deficit greater than 6 will have two semesters to attain good standing.
Students who do not meet these conditions will, in all likelihood, face University disqualification. Any courses for future terms in which the student is enrolled at the time of disqualification will be dropped (see University Disqualification). Students are required to discuss their academic situation with their University College academic advisor in order to develop a plan of action to attain good standing.

University Disqualification:
A student who receives University disqualification is unable to register for future terms at the University of Arizona. Any courses for future terms in which the student is enrolled at the time of disqualification will be dropped. Students who have been disqualified from the University may not take University of Arizona courses for credit or establish credit by examination during their periods of disqualification, although they may continue to work with instructors in classes in which they have received grades of "Incomplete". There is a readmission process, but students must meet certain qualifications in order to apply for readmission (see Readmission).
Probation or Disqualification by Special Action:
Upon recommendation of the dean of the college, a student may be placed on academic probation or may be disqualified at any time for neglect of academic work.
Petition of Disqualification
Petitions are accepted within a small window of time following spring semester. Students who have been disqualified by their college after spring semester are eligible to petition University College for consideration of immediate admission. These students must have experienced extenuating circumstances (e.g. family death, medical or psychological conditions) that can be documented by a third party. Petitions must have documentation to be accepted for consideration. Students petitioning their disqualification must have an 18 unit B deficit or smaller to be considered for admission. Students whose B deficits are larger than 18 must be eligible for academic renewal within a year after their return to the UA and be in good standing after filing for academic renewal. If the petition is approved, the student will be placed on contract by University College and must meet the contract conditions or face University Disqualification.
There is no petition process at the end of fall semester.
Readmission
Once a student has been disqualified or leaves on academic probation, there is no guarantee of readmission by University College or any other academic unit at the University of Arizona. The disqualified student may apply for consideration to return to University College only after the student has earned a minimum of a 3.00 with 24 academic, transferable units earned at another institution. All grades previously earned at the University of Arizona are retained in the student's record indefinitely; consequently, a readmitted student has two semesters to attain good standing. Students applying for readmission must have no more than an 18 unit B deficit to be considered for readmission. Students whose B deficits are larger than 18 must be eligible for academic renewal within a year after their return to the UA and be in good standing after filing for academic renewal.
Additionally, students seeking readmission who left the University on academic probation or under disqualification must complete several steps required by University College for their application to be considered. The student will meet with an advisor who will evaluate the student's situation and make a recommendation for the student to be readmitted or not. The student must have an academic plan to attain good standing and declare a major. If there is not a reasonable expectation the student can attain good standing in one semester, the student may be denied readmission.
