The Pre-Nursing Major at University College

University College is the Academic home for all pre-nursing majors. At our office in ILC, room 103, students receive advising for their major, including completion of the courses required for application to The University of Arizona's College of Nursing. These courses are:

ENGL 101 and 102 -English Composition
CHEM 101a -Lectures in General Chemistry
or CHEM 103a -Fundamentals of Chemistry
CHEM 101b - Lectures in General Chemistry
or CHEM 103b -Fundamentals of Chemistry
CHEM 102b -Organic Chemistry Lab
or CHEM 104a or 104b -Fundamental Techniques of Chemistry
PSIO 201 and 202 -Anatomy and Physiology
MIC 181R - Introductory Biology
MIC 205a -General Microbiology
MATH 160, MATH 263 ,
or PSYC 230 -Statistics (3 units)
FSHD 117 or ED P 300 or ED P 200
-Lifespan Development (3 units)
NSC 101 or NSC 310 or NATS 104 Nutrition, Food and You -Human Nutrition (3 units)

Our Pre-Nursing majors are also encouraged to use the major and health profession exploration advising available at University College to set academic and professional goals and plan steps to achieve these goals. The application process for admission to the College of Nursing at U of A is competitive and requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 along with completion of the prerequisite course work before applying. Our advisors will work with you to prepare for application to nursing school, developing a plan that will work best for you.

There are two separate sections of the Success Starts Here class for all first semester freshman pre-nursing majors. In this one-unit class, students will learn tools for academic success, explore their chosen profession further and focus on getting started in their U of A career with confidence.
